Following is a list (still under construction) of check-points you can follow for more effective writing:

Plan, Write, Revise (rewrite)

  • Plan: Brainstorm, Mindmap all ideas first; Organize: Most important information first

  • Write: Rules of Writing: Keep sentences brief; vary sentence length; avoid cliches and unnecessary repetitions; simplify your language; use a natural voice; write to express, not to impress!; Use active not passive voice verbs

  • Revise, Rewrite, Proofread: Check for a positive tone; make sure your main point is early; ask for what you want; use spell and grammar checks; let someone else check your document; read it aloud; read it backwards to catch small errors!
